Professor Daniel Medwed

Daniel S. Medwed is a University Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University School of Law, where he specializes in criminal law and evidence, with a focus on wrongful convictions and post-conviction justice. He is the author of Barred: Why the Innocent Can’t Get Out of Prison (2022), a widely praised exploration of the systemic failures in U.S. criminal justice. A founding board member of the Innocence Network, Professor Medwed has dedicated his career to identifying, analyzing, and correcting miscarriages of justice. His teaching and scholarship are informed by real-world experience with innocence projects, including work through the Second Look Program at Brooklyn Law School. Prior to joining Northeastern, he held faculty positions at the University of Utah and taught at Harvard and Brooklyn Law School. He has received numerous teaching awards and was named Faculty Commencement Speaker seven times.
