Course Details

This CLE course will prepare healthcare counsel to advise hospitals, medical staffs and physicians on effectively addressing common medical staff challenges, including peer review, medical staff bylaws, hospital board governance, conflict management and more.

Description

A number of complex challenges confront counsel to hospitals and medical staffs, including competently addressing peer review issues, having an accurate set of medical staff governing documents, recognizing the distinction between independent and hospital-employed physicians, and assuring a solid understanding of the interaction between the hospitals' boards, administration and medical staff leaders.

Addressing and assuring a sound understanding of these challenging issues improves communication; assists in compliance with state and federal law, accreditation standards, and recognized best practices; and ultimately helps achieve the goal of providing quality care to patients.

Healthcare counsel must guide clients in confronting and overcoming the legal challenges and conflicts that arise between hospitals and medical staffs.
