Angi Porter

Angi Porter is an Assistant Professor at American University Washington College of Law, where she teaches courses on Torts, Higher Education Law, and Africana Legal Studies. Since joining the faculty in 2022, Professor Porter has brought a unique scholarly lens to the classroom, focusing on African governance systems and their enduring resilience against Western legal impositions. A graduate of Howard University School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Howard Law Journal, she also brings practical expertise from her time as a civil litigator at Dorsey & Whitney LLP and as an attorney investigator at the University of Minnesota. Before entering academia full-time, Professor Porter served as a Research Fellow at Georgetown University Law Center and an adjunct professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. She is a former Vice President of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers and a noted voice on race, legal education, and professional ethics.
