Description

Over 100 new labor and employment laws and ordinances took effect between July 1, 2021, and Nov. 1, 2021. While some of these laws address COVID-19 and topics concerning return-to-work, most mark a renewed attention to other hot topic labor and employment issues. Several states and localities have adopted or expanded nondiscrimination statutes to recognize new protected classifications. Other popular topics include independent contractors and worker classification, cannabis use and drug testing in the workplace, and repairs to state unemployment insurance systems.

Many states have also increased employer requirements for paid sick leave or paid family leave. Pregnancy accommodations and disability claims are also trending up at the state and local levels. Significant employment law changes in certain large states such as California, New York, and Pennsylvania may affect employers even as the labor force spreads across the country.

Listen as our expert panel provides a survey of some of the most significant changes in employment regulations that have taken effect in the last 18 months. The panel will discuss best practices for compliance with these new requirements, particularly for national employers.
