Elder law counsel must understand the medical criteria, qualification standards for Medicaid, how assets are classified, limitations, and other items of focus when applying for Medicaid.

The goal for Medicaid applicants is to acquire benefits while also protecting assets and income. In order for elder law counsel to effectively assist with Medicaid planning and applying for Medicaid benefits, they must understand the rules for qualifying for Community Medicaid vs. Institutional Medicaid, mechanisms to facilitate asset transfers and protection, and other issues impacting eligibility and other qualification standards.
