Commercial Motor Vehicle Compliance and Regulation Update: Preventing Injuries, Avoiding Penalties, and Managing Risk

About the Course

Introduction

This CLE webinar will review current developments and 2026 changes for Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)-regulated entities.

Description

The FMCSA sets minimum standards for motor carriers and drivers operating commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce and, to a limited extent, in intrastate commerce. 2026 has ushered in changes to the way these standards are enforced and, with respect to some regulations, a return to prior enforcement priorities. Understanding and complying with FMCSA regulations is crucial for preventing CMV-related fatalities and injuries, avoiding penalties, and managing risk.

The investigation of a CMV case often extends to a carrier's compliance programs. Counsel should be thoroughly familiar with who is regulated, driver qualification requirements, drug and alcohol testing, hours of service, vehicle maintenance, and above all, how the applicable regulations are enforced. Knowing precisely what is required by the regulations and consistently following them can prevent attempts to hold CMV companies liable for violating rules that do not exist.

Listen as our panel of trucking industry veterans illuminates key issues and current developments in DOT compliance and FMCSA regulations.
