This CLE course will examine current trends in medical malpractice lawsuits against radiologists and strategies for plaintiff and defense counsel handling these cases. The panel will discuss common bases for claims, proving or challenging causation and damages, working with expert witnesses to determine the appropriate standard of medical care and treatment, settlement strategies, and more.
Faculty

Mr. Freidlin’s practice encompasses all areas of medical malpractice and products liability defense; he is also well-versed in general liability, professional liability, insurance law and electronic discovery. Mr. Freidlin’s 21+ years of experience include extensive defense of health care professionals and hospitals in medical malpractice actions, with emphasis on radiology, OBGYN, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, and hospital malpractice cases; defense of major medical centers in mass tort litigation against claims involving hepatitis C/HIV transmission, neurosurgery, and alleged fraudulent billing; and representation of various manufacturers in products liability litigation. He is a frequent author and lecturer on malpractice and other legal issues.

Mr. Matzus has over 25 years of experience handling complex personal injury cases, including medical malpractice, industrial and construction site injury cases, car accident and trucking accident cases, and fires and explosions. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Matzus has recovered tens of millions of dollars for his clients. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board, a position he was appointed to by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. This Board oversees the administration of continuing legal education requirements for all lawyers in Pennsylvania. Mr. Matzus is the past president of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, which is the largest organization for trial lawyers in Pennsylvania and one of the most prominent trial lawyer organizations in the country. He has also served as the president of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.

As medical technology advances, radiologists have more responsibility for patient diagnoses, increasing their exposure to medical malpractice lawsuits.
