North Dakota CLE FAQs
North Dakota attorneys must complete their CLE requirement by June 30 of the last year of their 3-year reporting cycle.
Newly admitted North Dakota attorneys must complete 16 transitional CLE credits each year during their first two years of practice.
Annual Credit Breakdown:
- 7 credits — Law Practice Management & Areas of Professional Practice
- 6 credits — Skills
- 2 credits — Ethics & Professionalism
- Includes 1 credit in Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Ethics (effective July 1, 2023)
- 1 credit — Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection
Reporting:
- Reporting period: Two years
- Deadline: Within 30 days of your birthday, on alternate years (based on your admission year)
Carry-Over Rules:
- Up to 8 credits may carry over from Year 1
- Up to 6 credits may carry over from Year 2
- Ethics & Professionalism credits cannot be carried over
