Dennis Kennedy is the Principal Investigator at the Kennedy Idea Propulsion Laboratory, a research and advisory initiative where his work synthesizes AI, law, and systems thinking to help legal professionals navigate complex challenges. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan Law School, where he created and teaches the course Legal Technology Literacy and Leadership. Previously, he served as Director of the Center for Law, Technology & Innovation at Michigan State University, where he created and taught courses including AI and the Law. A former in-house technology counsel at Mastercard, he received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Legal Technology Awards in recognition of his contributions to the legal technology field. Since 2006, he has co-hosted The Kennedy-Mighell Report, a long-running podcast on legal technology.
Dennis collaborated with SkillBurst, a BARBRI company, to help shape curriculum for the Generative AI Fundamentals for Law Firms series. Drawing on his perspective at the intersection of law and emerging technology, he helped ensure the modules translate complex AI concepts into practical guidance that law firms can apply as they evaluate, implement, and govern generative AI.
