The Work Ready series by SkillBurst, a BARBRI company, begins with junior lawyer-friendly modules that invite users to practice basic skills and best practices for making a great first impression with clients and colleagues. The series applies to lawyers at any stage of their practice, but specifically addresses the tensions and use cases for junior lawyers in introductory positions as they navigate a new law firm environment.

First, the series focuses on lawyer-client interactions and guides users through a series of stop-and-reflect exercises about their own experiences. This segment instructs lawyers to identify their personal role in providing client service through self-reflection. Because clients demand great service, learning how to build considerate relationships with clients is key. The modules explain this through three best practices: responsiveness, communication, and technology efficiency.

The modules offer a step-by-step breakdown of how to prepare effectively for a meeting, setting each lawyer up for success through impression management techniques. The included sample scenarios prompt the viewer with reflection questions along the way to best assess the user's understanding of how to make a great first impression with clients. It also includes discussions of introductions, professional attire, and best practices for formality in the law firm.

These short, engaging videos offer a fresh angle on the importance of client-junior lawyer interaction by emphasizing client service, clarity, client experience, preparation, and confidence. Lawyers need to instill confidence in their clients, become a trusted advisor, and build strong relationships, and these legal training modules help with these mandates.

From an internal perspective, a second module introduces law firm best practices for lawyers interacting with colleagues, especially superiors. The modules begin with a scenario that asks users to assist junior lawyers in navigating initial impressions and social situations along the way. Furthermore, the scenario includes personal reflections and legal training simulations that ask users to consider, “What would you do?” BARBRI encourages lawyers to collaborate, build connections, and create a strong, cohesive internal structure that best suits the law firm environment.

It is important to build connections with colleagues to maximize efficiency and workplace benefits, as suggested by a balanced approach to “tasks” and “relationships.”  That’s why modules from the Work Ready series are focused on helping users build their reputations, earn trust and respect, build rapport with senior colleagues, and work effectively with clients to set themselves up for greater opportunities ahead.
