The final administration of the traditional Nevada bar exam will take place in July 2026. For those graduating in 2027 or after, Nevada is introducing a new alternative licensure pathway.  This page provides comprehensive details about both licensure pathways. 

Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination

Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination

In May 2025, the Nevada Supreme Court adopted the Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination (the Nevada Plan). The Nevada Plan went into effect on January 19, 2026. This is a three-part assessment, which can be taken separately and passed in any order. There is no limit to the number of times an applicant may attempt these components, so long as the components are completed within the time frame outlined by the State Bar of Nevada.

Nevada Foundational Law Exam (FLE)

Foundational Law Exam (FLE)

A 100-question, closed book, multiple-choice examination administered on a computer at a testing center. To be eligible to take the FLE, applicants must have earned at least 42 credits at an ABA accredited law school or been approved by the Functional Equivalency Committee. Learn more here

Deadlines for Next Administration

The first FLE will be administered May 28-29, 2026. 

  • Registration Open: January 19, 2026 

  • Deadline: March 1, 2026 

  • Accommodation Application Deadline: March 1, 2026 

  • Testing Appointment Scheduling: Registration with Prometric for a testing appointment will open March 2, 2026. Applicants will receive notification from the State Bar with eligibility information required to schedule a testing appointment.

  • Non-attorney: $150 

  • Late Fee: $150

Nevada Supervised Practice Program (SPP)

Supervised Practice Program (SPP)

Minimum of 40 hours of supervised practice while in law school or after. Applicants must work under an approved supervising attorney or program, complete a self-directed learning project and journaling requirement, and perform at least four tasks from a list provided by the Nevada State Bar. Deadlines for Next Administration

  • Registration Open: January 19, 2026 

  • Applications Accepted: Applications for admission for the Spring SPP will be accepted through April 1, 2026. 

  • Journaling Enrollment: You will receive your link to enroll in Canvas to complete the journaling requirement after registration. 

  • Certification and Journaling Submission Due: Certification of program completion and journaling entries must be submitted by May 1, 2026. 

Fee

The fee for the Supervised Practice Program is $350.

Requirements

  • Work under an approved supervising attorney or program. 

  • Complete a self-directed learning project and journaling requirement. 

  • Perform at least four tasks, including: 

  • Interview or counsel a client (required). 

    • Discuss client needs. 

    • Prepare a strategic approach to achieve client goals. 

    • Conduct legal research. 

    • Draft correspondence. 

    • Prepare documents for filing. 

    • Negotiate, arbitrate, or mediate. 

    • Appear in court or before an administrative tribunal. 

Eligible Programs

  • Clinical courses at ABA-accredited law schools that do not charge clients for their services. 

  • Externships at governmental or nonprofit entities taken through ABA-accredited law schools. 

  • Legal aid programs approved by the Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission. 

  • Governmental offices in Nevada. 

  • A member of the Nevada state bar who satisfies the requirements of Rule 49.3(5) and who is working on a pro bono case provided by an approved Access to Justice Commission legal aid office in the State of Nevada. 

Nevada Lawyering Performance Exam (LPE)

Lawyering Performance Exam (LPE)

The Lawyering Performance Exam (LPE) is modeled after the Nevada Performance Tests, which are designed to test the ability to complete a common legal task a beginning lawyer would be expected to perform. There will be 3 practice scenarios in the LPE. To be eligible to take the LPE, applicants must have earned their JD from an ABA accredited law school or its equivalent (as approved by the Functional Equivalency Committee) prior to the exam administration. Format + Content

  • Session 1: A four (4) hour session for Nevada Performance Test 1 and 2. 

  • Lunch break (1 hour 30 minutes) 

  • Session 2: A two (2) hour session for Nevada Performance Test 3. 

Nevada Performance Tests 

  • May include legal ethics. 

  • Scenarios may include any legal subject. 

  • Questions often integrate multiple subjects and require drafting, analysis, and strategic thinking.

  • June 22, 2027 

Deadlines for registration and applications for testing accommodations will be shared by the Nevada State Bar later in 2026.

  • Non-attorney: $265

July 2026 Bar Exam Details

The information below is accurate for the typical 3-day Nevada Bar Exam, which Nevada will administer in July 2026. Following the July 2026 exam, Nevada will transition fully to the Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination.

  • Six 60-minute essay questions

Day 2

  • Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the AM, 100 questions in the PM)

  • One 60-minute essay question and two 2-hour Nevada PTs

Both fundamental legal principles and Nevada law are tested and may embrace more than a single subject.

Nevada Performance Test

  • “Closed universe” practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.

MPRE

  • A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE achieved within three years prior to or three years after successful completion of the Nevada Bar Exam is required for admission.

Scoring

MBE (weighted one-third) and written scores (weighted two-thirds) are combined for an overall passing score.

In order to pass the Nevada Bar Exam, an applicant must have a total scaled score of 75 or higher and a converted score of 75 or higher on at least three written essay questions. This equates to a passing score of 140 on a 200-point scale.

Reciprocity

Acceptance of MBE Score

  • Nevada does not accept an MBE score from an exam taken in another jurisdiction.

Admission on Motion

  • Nevada does not provide for admission on motion. Examination is required of all applicants.

Admission of House Counsel

  • Attorneys interested in limited practice, who are exclusively employed for a single government entity or for a single corporation qualified to do business in Nevada, whose business consists of activities other than the practice of law, may apply for certification under Nevada Supreme Court Rule 49.1(1)(h). The application filing fee is $1,000.

Foreign law school graduates

  • Foreign-educated applicants, and other non-ABA law school graduates, may seek a functional equivalency certification in order to apply for admission to the State Bar of Nevada.
