The bar exam is unlike any other test and it’s arguably the most important one you’ll take in your lifetime. Wouldn’t it be great to walk into the exam with the confidence that you are going to pass, the first time? BARBRI students are best equipped to perform at the highest levels on exam day.
In all of the studies conducted by our data scientists of pass rates reported by every ABA accredited law school, in every jurisdiction across the United States, it remains clear. BARBRI students achieve a higher average score on the legacy Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) than students using any other bar prep course*.
The numbers really speak volumes. For example, students who prepared with BARBRI Bar Review for the legacy UBE were shown to score an average of 19 points higher on their bar exam. That's 19 points above the passing mark based on studies of actual scores from students who took the legacy UBE in participating UBE jurisdictions.
Note: As states transition to the NextGen UBE, exam formats and scoring methodologies will differ. These findings are based on legacy UBE results only and should not be interpreted as applying to other exam types.
Better Prep, Better Score on the Legacy UBE
Our in-house data scientists continually analyze BARBRI student data and work closely with law schools nationwide. Among the tens of thousands of data points gathered for the legacy UBE, they’ve spotted an eye-opening pattern: Per hour of study, BARBRI students who follow our proven process scored more points on the bar exam compared to non-BARBRI students.
Other studies have shown that all activities assigned during your BARBRI Bar Review course are positively correlated to increased points on the legacy bar exam and, ultimately, bar passage. We’ve spent nearly 60 years innovating and investing in our methodology so that every minute you spend on BARBRI bar prep increases your chances of passing.
Students who choose BARBRI show up on exam day sharper and more prepared. They’ve studied smarter, not harder, using a system that turns prep time into meaningful progress.
Studies Reveal the BARBRI Advantage
Here's a closer look at study findings. First, we see that students who complete a higher percentage of assignments in their BARBRI Bar Review course get a higher average bar exam score. That’s what you’d generally expect.
The chart below reflects score outcomes from students who sat for the legacy UBE. All the blue dots are BARBRI students, and the dotted line represents the relationship between bar review course completion and final bar exam score. The dotted line slopes upward, which means the higher percentage of BARBRI course completion, the better students do on the bar exam. Simple enough.
When we look at the group of bar takers who did not study with BARBRI, we see a similar upward trajectory.
When we combine both BARBRI and non-BARBRI student scores within the graph, it reveals the true BARBRI advantage – when students study with BARBRI, they get more points for their effort.
The relationship between course completion and performance demonstrated in these studies provides insight into how structured preparation can impact your bar exam outcome.
Confidence in the Cushion
Historically, many unsuccessful legacy UBE examinees missed passing by 10 or fewer points. Building a meaningful scoring cushion through consistent preparation can help reduce test-day uncertainty and increase confidence.
This is why the majority of graduating law students trust BARBRI with their bar prep every single year. We have more success stories (1.43+ million passes) than all other bar companies combined. And because more students choose to prepare with us each year, we have the most accurate insight (via our industry-leading Pass Predictor) into how you’ll stack up against other bar takers.
