Last Thursday, April 2nd, we brought our entire SkillBurst client community together to host our first SkillBurst Showcase. What followed was an hour (and then some) of candid stories, practical ideas, and a reminder of just how much this community can learn from each other.
The SkillBurst Showcase was designed with a simple premise: the most useful thing we can do for our clients isn't just to deliver great content — it's to create space for them to learn from one another. Firms that have been with us for nearly a decade sat alongside firms just getting started. Lawyer development leads compared notes with business professional development teams. And five clients generously took the mic to share exactly how they're making SkillBurst’s flexible professional development solutions work in their firms.
Here's a look at what we covered — and what we heard.
Five Firms, Five Approaches
We asked five clients to share their stories, with one guiding question: what's actually working? The answers were as varied as the firms themselves.
Traci Jenkins
Director of Career Development — Venable LLP
Traci has built one of the most structured approaches to SkillBurst we've seen. New associates at Venable receive curated learning paths of 15–20 modules as part of their onboarding experience; laterals get a different track based on their experience and needs. Modules also appear in one-on-one coaching conversations and cohort sessions, where facilitator guides spark deeper discussion. Her advice: Get a handle on all of the module options available to you, then figure out the best ways to use them based on your specific needs.
Megan McNulty
Senior Manager of Professional Development — Covington & Burling LLP
Megan’s experience with SkillBurst solutions started with AI and expanded from there. At Covington, select AI modules are required before any lawyer or professional can access firm AI tools — creating a shared baseline that frees the lawyers to focus on delivering practice-specific AI training. She's also found creative use for professional skills modules as pre-work before in-person associate seminars, helping attendees arrive grounded and ready to engage – and ready to network.
Lauren Brown
Chief Talent Officer — Arnall Golden Gregory LLP
Lauren’s team made the entire AI series mandatory — for every attorney and staff member across the firm. The feedback from her knowledge management team is exactly what the SkillBurst team shoots for: the content felt like it had been developed specifically for AGG, because the framing aligned so naturally with how the firm had already been messaging AI adoption. She's also woven SkillBurst’s professional skills modules into the firm's mentoring program, giving partner mentors short modules to watch before meetings with their mentees as conversation starters.
Cindy Weinberg
Associate Director of Development & Coaching - Business Professionals — Cooley LLP
Cindy's story is a model of cross-team collaboration. At Cooley, the business professional development team and the attorney PD team jointly select modules and share the budget — a structure that ensures SkillBurst works for the whole firm, not just one group. Cindy also collaborated directly with our development team to create the First-Time Manager modules, bringing real frontline insight into content that now serves the entire SkillBurst community.
Alex Holtan
Partner — Holland & Knight LLP
Alex's story was unlike others shared during the event. He uses custom eLearning not to train his own firm's lawyers — but to train his clients and generate a new revenue stream for the firm. Starting from a dinner conversation about a gap in commodities and derivatives training, he built a branded module library that now generates revenue for the firm. His model: build once, sell many, and treat training as paid client development. "You're in front of the client, your brand is in front of the client, you're helping them solve issues — and that leads to more work."
Favorite Modules
We asked each speaker to share their favorite Professional Essentials module. A few came up more than once. Among them:
- Building Your Personal Brand
- Language of Leadership: Words Matter
- Inviting and Embracing Feedback
- AI for Professional Development
What's New — and What's Coming
Alongside the client stories, our content team shared a look at what's arriving in the SkillBurst library this year.
Work Ready
Our newest Professional Essentials series focuses on the unspoken rules of the workplace for early-career legal professionals — office politics, building credibility, managing expectations, and more. Available for US and UK audiences, with more modules on the way.
AI Fluency Expansion
Eight new AI Fundamentals modules are now available, bringing the full AI library to 29 modules. Content is organized around a skills-domain framework: Foundations, Core Skills, Legal Workflows, Strategic Advantage, and Risk & Ethics.
Management & Leadership
Coming later this year: new modules across three tracks — Leading People, Leading Projects, and Leading Negotiations. Developed in direct response to client feedback about the growing importance of human skills as AI reshapes legal work.
Compliance Refresh
Our 2026 refresh options are now available for Respectful Workplace, Bystander Intervention, and Violence Prevention courses. These refresh options contribute to these courses remaining the trusted, multi-state, multi-year compliance training solution for law firms.
The Conversation Continues
One of the most consistent themes across the morning was this: the firms getting the most out of SkillBurst aren't necessarily using it the most — they're using it the most intentionally. They've thought carefully about where SkillBurst’s flexible professional development solutions fit in their broader onboarding and development strategies, where they provide leverage, where they remove friction, and where they create opportunities for deeper conversations.
That's exactly the kind of thinking we want to support. The Showcase was our first attempt to create a space for that — and we're already planning the next one.
If something you read here sparked an idea, we'd love to hear it. And if you'd like to share your firm's story at a future SkillBurst Showcase, reach out.
