Crypto Assets Accounting and Disclosure Requirements: Implementing ASU 2023-08

Scope, Measurement, and Financial Statement Presentation

About the Course

Introduction

This webinar will provide CPAs with a practical, implementation-focused examination of ASU 2023 08, Accounting for and Disclosure of Crypto Assets, and explain how this guidance fundamentally changes the way qualifying crypto assets are reported as financial statement assets and property under GAAP. Our panel of experienced accounting and auditing professionals will walk through the standard's scope requirements, fair value measurement model, and expanded presentation and disclosure obligations, with an emphasis on issues practitioners are encountering in practice.

Description

In December 2023, the FASB issued ASU 2023-08 to better account for the volatility of crypto assets. The standard applies to any entity that issues financial statements and holds cryptocurrency or similar assets. Assets covered by the ASU include intangible assets created or residing on a distributed blockchain ledger or similar technology. These assets must be presented separately from other intangible assets on the balance sheet. CPAs responsible for preparing, reviewing, or auditing financial statements must understand which digital assets qualify, which are excluded, and how the requirements affect recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure.

Listen as our panel of crypto‑accounting specialists explains the requirements of ASU 2023‑08 and offers practical guidance for reporting crypto assets as financial statement property in compliance with the latest GAAP requirements.
