This series explores the evolving LegalTech landscape, offering practical insights on working effectively with digital tools and leveraging generative AI. Whether optimizing document review, streamlining research, or enhancing collaboration, this course equips you with the skills to harness LegalTech for a smarter, more effective legal practice.


Course Format and CLE Credit Information

This course includes two types of learning components:

  • A 90-minute webinar, which is eligible for CLE credit in most jurisdictions (subject to individual state approval)
  • A set of interactive self-study eLearning modules, which are not eligible for CLE credit

While the total course duration is approximately 174 minutes, only the 90-minute webinar may qualify for CLE credit. CLE credit is awarded only for participation in the webinar, and credit eligibility may vary by state. We recommend verifying credit eligibility with your specific state bar or accrediting authority prior to enrollment.

Course Modules and Webinar Include: 

  • The LegalTech Landscape (14 min) In this module, you will learn about common categories of legal technology applications as they relate to typical workflows in any law firm. You will gain a basic understanding of the different outcomes each application is intended to achieve, as well as some example products within that category. You will also gain an appreciation of how the rise of generative AI has prompted those applications to change, for example by adding new capabilities or addressing new use cases. 
  • Working Securely With Digital Tools (11 min) This module will help you understand some of the most common challenges for lawyers working securely with client data and communications, and the types of technology tools available to help. Through reference to common functions of a modern lawyer, you will gain a deeper understanding of how you can work safely and productively in an increasingly digital world, all while meeting and exceeding client expectations.
  • Generative AI Facts and Foundations (16 min) In this module we meet Nolan, a lawyer at a prominent law firm who is seeking to understand Generative AI tools and their applications for legal work. We'll accompany Nolan as he learns about some key concepts behind this technology, the differences between Generative AI and other types of AI systems, and how AI is currently being utilized in legal practice. Throughout the module, we'll demystify some of the associated technical jargon, offering a clear and straightforward understanding of what Generative AI signifies for today's law firms.
  • Mastering Copilot for Law Firms (13 min) In this module, you will learn what Copilot from Microsoft is and how the desktop, embedded, and web-based versions differ. You will gain a basic understanding of the security and privacy aspects of working with Copilot. You will then examine a series of scenarios demonstrating ways in which Copilot can create efficiencies in common workflows, before considering how you might achieve similar or even better results.
  • Webinar: AI and the Legal Industry: Ethical Issues, Privacy/Security Considerations, Best Practices for Using AI This CLE webinar will guide counsel on navigating the challenges when using AI in the practice of law. The panel will address ethical issues and privacy and security considerations. The panel will also offer best practices for ensuring compliance with ethical obligations and protecting confidential information.
