Managing legal matters efficiently is a critical skill for any new lawyer. This series covers the fundamentals of client service, effective matter management strategies, and the evolving legal technology landscape. Learn how to harness technology to streamline workflows, track transactions with precision, and deliver high quality work in a fast paced environment.
Course Format and CLE Credit Information
This course includes two types of learning components:
- A 60-minute webinar, which is eligible for CLE credit in most jurisdictions (subject to individual state approval)
- A set of interactive self-study eLearning modules, which are not eligible for CLE credit
While the total course duration is approximately 123 minutes, only the 60-minute webinar may qualify for CLE credit. CLE credit is awarded only for participation in the webinar, and credit eligibility may vary by state. We recommend verifying credit eligibility with your specific state bar or accrediting authority prior to enrollment.
Faculty

Mr. Desteian represents businesses in complex commercial litigation, and also counsels and defends other lawyers against a spectrum of professional liability claims. His commercial litigation practice includes representing businesses in a wide range of business disputes. As a professional liability attorney, he regularly helps other lawyers prevent and navigate lawsuits, investigations, board proceedings, and hearings involving legal ethics, legal malpractice, and other areas relating to the law of lawyering.

Mr. Hall is a litigation attorney whose practice includes data breach and cybersecurity, business and commercial litigation, construction and real estate, employment, and professional liability. Previously, Mr. Hall served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and as an Assistant District Attorney in Western New York. In these roles, he represented clients in trials, administrative hearings, and appeals, provided counsel to government agencies and municipalities, conducted investigations, and performed pro bono work for non-profit and small business organizations. Mr. Hall has undergone extensive training in digital forensics and digital evidence at the National Computer Forensics Institute. He holds both the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certifications. These credentials allow him to provide comprehensive legal solutions in information security, data privacy compliance, incident response, and cyber risk management.

- The Six Truths of Client Service (13 min) Delivering exceptional client service can be the difference between keeping and losing a client. Knowing how to actually deliver this level of service day in and day out is where the challenge lies. In this module we'll explore Six Truths of Client Service to guide your day-to-day interactions and ensure you are providing an experience that clients will appreciate and value for years to come.
- Matter Management (12 min) Like everyone in the legal profession your calendar is full of active matters. Each matter has different stakeholders and each stakeholder has different goals and expectations for the project—and then there are last minute developments and unexpected complications to deal with. If you have ever wondered how to stop fighting fires and get control of your schedule and your matters this module is for you. We'll explore some simple changes you can make today to help you avoid future problems and we'll look at various ways you can reduce the stress for you and your clients.
- The Legal Tech Landscape (14 min) In this module, you will learn about common categories of legal technology applications as they relate to typical workflows in any law firm. You will gain a basic understanding of the different outcomes each application is intended to achieve, as well as some example products within that category. You will also gain an appreciation of how the rise of generative AI has prompted those applications to change, for example by adding new capabilities or addressing new use cases.
- Transaction Management With Technology Tools (13 min) This module will provide an overview of commonly used technology products intended to assist with different stages of a typical legal transaction. Taking a timeline approach, you'll consider various challenges throughout the lifecycle of a matter and explore how legal technology solutions can add value, enhance the client experience, and boost your professional productivity.
- Working Securely With Digital Tools (11 min) This module will help you understand some of the most common challenges for lawyers working securely with client data and communications, and the types of technology tools available to help. Through reference to common functions of a modern lawyer, you will gain a deeper understanding of how you can work safely and productively in an increasingly digital world, all while meeting and exceeding client expectations.
- Webinar: Using Technology Safely and Responsibly in a Legal Setting: Understanding Key Ethics Rules, Avoiding Misuse This CLE webinar will provide guidance on how attorneys can safely and responsibly use the latest devices and technologies, including generative AI and ChatGPT, in a law practice setting. The speakers will explore how commonly used technologies may implicate a lawyer's ethical obligations, including the duties of competence and confidentiality. The speakers will also provide tips for avoiding missteps and misuses.
