Free MPRE Prep Course

The Most Comprehensive and Trusted MPRE Prep Course Available
Achieving success on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) starts here. The MPRE covers legal ethics and is designed to start you thinking like a practicing attorney. The MPRE is a 2-hour, 60-question, multiple-choice exam developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE).
While the rules you learn in your legal ethics or professional responsibility (PR) courses will apply to the MPRE, they won’t necessarily cover all the material tested. Enroll in BARBRI’s free MPRE prep course and you’ll be ready to answer questions with the mindset examiners expect.
BARBRI MPRE Review is the most comprehensive and trusted preparation tool available, designed to help aspiring attorneys like you approach the exam with confidence. With resources and strategies tailored to meet your individual study needs, we provide everything you need to excel.

I used BARBRI only to prepare for the MPRE and absolutely crushed it. I feel so empowered knowing that BARBRI is able to help me learn and absorb the content I’ll need to be able to crush the bar exam too.
I was able to use BARBRI for my bar prep and I passed on my FIRST attempt. Having fulfilled a dream of becoming an attorney (a dream that I’ve had since I was 7 years old) was life-changing. The videos and all of the practice materials were amazingly helpful. I also made sure to do all of the Early Start program prior to starting the program. I also used BARBRI for my MPRE and scored 35 points higher than I needed to! Trying to study for the bar with a 1-year-old was very tough but thanks to BARBRI, I am now officially a Georgia attorney. I look forward to using BARBRI again for the Florida bar.

MPRE FAQs
What is the MPRE?
The Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) was developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) to gauge your understanding of standards related to the professional conduct of lawyers and judges. The MPRE exam does not assess your personal ethical values. Rather, it is designed to evaluate your ability to make ethical judgment calls when faced with legal situations that lack straightforward moral paradigms.
Passage of the MPRE is required for admission or re-admission to the bars of all but two U.S. jurisdictions (Wisconsin and Puerto Rico). If you reside in Connecticut or New Jersey, you can successfully complete a Professional Responsibility course in law school instead of taking the MPRE. The exam is administered online every March, August, and November at various testing centers across the U.S., including in Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Be sure to check out the BARBRI Bar Exam Digest, which compiles all the information you need for each U.S. state.

How many questions are on the MPRE?
The MPRE consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers, administered over two hours. Of the 60 questions, 50 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions. Since the pretest questions are indistinguishable from the scored ones, it’s important to answer all questions.
The MPRE covers such things as:
- Regulation of the legal profession
- Client-lawyer relationship and client confidentiality
- Conflicts of interest
- Legal malpractice and other civil liability
- Litigation and other forms of advocacy
- Judicial conduct
The free, online BARBRI MPRE Review course includes expert lectures, outlines, and up-to-date practice questions for highly effective, comprehensive MPRE test prep.
For more information about subjects tested and test format, visit the NCBE’s Preparing for the MPRE page.
How long is the MPRE?
The MPRE is a two-hour exam covering a broad range of topics related to the law governing the conduct and discipline of lawyers and judges. There are no scheduled breaks during the MPRE. If you need to take an unscheduled break to stretch or use the restroom, for example, keep in mind that the test time will continue to run.
How much time should I devote to studying for the MPRE?
Your preparation time will largely depend on your familiarity with legal ethics and your study habits. If you can swing a few days off from work or school to study for the MPRE, you likely won’t regret it. The multiple-choice questions on the MPRE have become increasingly challenging with each exam administration. Taking a law school Legal Ethics or Professional Responsibility class won’t necessarily guarantee a passing score. Consider taking the free BARBRI MPRE Review course for the best MPRE prep. Our MPRE Review covers all things ethics, is highly organized, and is continually updated.

How is the MPRE scored?
The minimum passing score for the MPRE varies by U.S. state and jurisdiction, and that score is subject to change. Your score will be determined by the number of questions you answer correctly. Points are not taken off for incorrect answers.
MPRE scores are scaled, ranging from 50 to 150. This means that the number of questions you answer correctly out of 60 (your raw score) will be adjusted based on the difficulty of the exam and performance of everyone else taking your same exam. Because of these adjustments, it’s impossible to know in advance of the test how many questions you must answer correctly to achieve a passing score.
