  • Edge Hill University students now have access to BARBRI’s SQE1 Prep course as part of the LLM in Legal Practice
  • This collaboration will help to support ease of access to SQE Prep as part of the university journey

Edge Hill University has this week announced its plans to integrate Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) Prep into its Master’s programme in collaboration with legal education provider, BARBRI.

Set to officially launch in October 2023, Edge Hill University students will be able to undertake BARBRI’s 40-week SQE1 Prep course as part of the LLM (Master of Laws) in Legal Practice. This means that while completing their Master’s degree, students will undergo essential preparation for the July SQE1 assessment, a key step forward in their journey towards legal qualification.

Jay Cullen, head of law, criminology and policy at Edge Hill University said: “Edge Hill is delighted to be taking our next step in professional legal education in partnership with BARBRI. We are making great strides to equip graduates for the challenges of the future and improve their employment prospects.

“We are confident that the combination of Edge Hill’s renowned teaching excellence, together with BARBRI’s global reputation as a provider of first-class legal education, will mean that students taking the LLM in Legal Practice will enjoy a market-leading experience and help secure a rewarding career.”

With over 1.3 million alumni worldwide, BARBRI’s SQE1 Prep courses have been created by industry experts with LawTech at the core to provide students with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve SQE success. This has been demonstrated in pass rates, with BARBRI SQE1 candidates achieving a 77% pass for the inaugural exam compared to the 53% industry average.

Chris Jorgenson, senior director of institutional partnerships for BARBRI, said: “We’re proud to announce our collaboration with Edge Hill University to support Master’s students on their pathway to qualification. We understand that access to the profession remains a key issue for aspiring solicitors, despite the SRA’s hopes that the SQE would help to diversify the profession. However, we recognise that this goal cannot be achieved without support from institutions across the industry. That’s why we are thrilled to join forces with Edge Hill University to take a forward-thinking approach that will truly benefit the individual.”

BARBRI’s innovative testing and learning technologies provide future solicitors with the best opportunity to succeed. It offers a range of full-time and part-time course options to prepare candidates for SQE success.
