QWE Kickstart: Your first step to QWE
Calling all aspiring lawyers! We’ve partnered with The SQuarE Route to offer BARBRI students the opportunity to secure a quality and career-enhancing 6-month period of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) at top law firms and corporations.
Entries are now open for all BARBRI SQE1 10-Week Prep Course students who are preparing for the July 2024 SQE1 exam!
Who are The SQuarE Route?
We know how hard it is to become a solicitor, but the new SQE route to qualification gives you a better chance than ever to do so. Owned and managed by a team of qualified solicitors and barristers with significant experience in the legal industry, the SQuarE Route helps you flourish and achieve your dreams by offering you the opportunity to secure a guaranteed minimum 6 months of QWE. If you are not successful, you will have received additional career skills training and we will continue to work tirelessly to get you QWE placements to help you qualify as a solicitor.

Recent law graduates from a UK university who are looking for the quickest, most efficient course to pass the SQE and who are able to dedicate themselves to studying full time.

Step 2: Mini-essays
To apply, we would like you to submit answers to each of the following 4 questions:
- What is commercial awareness and why is it important?
- What are the top three skills a successful lawyer should have?
- What do you believe to be the main challenges affecting the legal sector and why?
- Why is wellbeing such an important topic in the legal industry?
Each answer should be 250 words max in length. Please note, we’re looking for original answers and will disqualify plagiarised or AI-generated answers. Entries are assessed by The SQuarE Route. By submitting this entry, you agree to have your application processed by a third-party assessor.
Send your application in by 5pm on the 17 May 2024.
Step 3: QWE Kickstart programme
All applications will be reviewed carefully and the top candidates will be invited to an assessment centre. We will let you know if you've been successful by 31 May 2024. The assessment centre (involving competency interview, case study and presentation) will be between the 17 and 28 June 2024.
The QWE Kickstart employability scheme in association with The SQuarE Route includes masterclasses in CV, cover letter and application writing, commercial awareness training, and skills training to help you with competency interviews, case study tasks and presentations. You’ll receive a mentor, and the opportunity to attend mock HR interviews and mock assessment centres.
Step 4: Success
Successful candidates will be informed by 31 May 2024. If you are successful you will be put forward to partner firms for QWE opportunities that are at least 6 months in length. Last year, the SQuarE Route placed students at Linklaters, Macfarlanes, Addleshaw Goddard, AstraZeneca, KPMG and many more.
