A typical West Virginia Bar Exam is a 2-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE)

Day 1
- Two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test questions (MPT in the AM)
- Six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam questions (MEE in the PM)
Day 2
- Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the AM, 100 questions in the PM)

- Constitutional Law
- Contracts/Sales
- Criminal Law/Procedure
- Evidence
- Federal Civil Procedure
- Real Property
- Torts
MEE
- Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies)
- Conflict of Laws
- Family Law
- Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests)
- Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code
- Plus all MBE subjects
MPT
- “Closed universe” practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.
MPRE
- A passing scaled score of 80 is required on the MPRE within 25 months of successful completion of bar examination.

The MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE.
- MBE weighted 50%
- MEE weighted 30%
- MPT weighted 20%
The scores are combined to determine if the applicant has achieved a passing score of 270.
Acceptance of MBE Score
Applicants may transfer an MBE scaled score from a previous successful exam taken within 13 months of present exam.
Admission on Motion
May be admitted without exam from jurisdictions with admission standards substantially equivalent to those of West Virginia. Applicant must have practiced for five of the seven years immediately preceding application, passed MPRE and be a graduate of an ABA accredited law school.
Admission by UBE
An applicant who has taken the UBE in a jurisdiction other than West Virginia may be admitted to the practice of law in West Virginia with a combined, scaled UBE score of no less than 270 in an administration of the UBE taken within three years immediately preceding the date upon which application is made, and a scaled MPRE score of no less than 80 achieved within 25 months of the applicant's successful UBE administration.
